A Detroit comeback like no other
A 27-year-old serial entrepreneur, Daniel Washington is rebuilding and revitalizing the NW Goldberg neighborhood - home to the Motown Museum, Henry Ford Health System, and Cardinal Health.
Daniel is the president and founder of NW Goldberg Cares, a community development corporation located in the heart of Detroit’s NW Goldberg neighborhood. With an education from Detroit’s renowned Wayne State University – the 27-year-old serial entrepreneur has years of experience in marketing and communication. He is using that experience to revitalize and rebuild his neighborhood – a community that is home to the Motown Museum, Henry Ford Health System, and Cardinal Health.
What started as a childhood dream on 15th Street, has evolved into the beginnings of an epic comeback story for the 1,800 residents that call NW Goldberg home. Since childhood, Daniel’s family has maintained properties in NW Goldberg and petitioned the city to demolish condemned structures. With this latest venture, Daniel is expanding beyond 15th Street in a way that is inclusive to all residents. In addition to NW Goldberg Cares, Daniel is co-founder of Detroit Dough - Detroit’s first safe-to-eat cookie dough manufacturer based out of NW Goldberg neighborhood. The young company has been featured in more than 15 local and national publications and has sold over 60,000 cups of their ready to eat cookie dough.
His advice to the next generation is to just, “start something.” He believes, “starting is the hardest part… If you are chasing greatness or impact it starts with you taking a risk despite all the supporters and/or doubters in your life. Nothing great is achieved without risk and a bet on yourself.” Daniel approaches life with a God first, positive action second mentality. In the face of adversity, he has learned to lean into his faith and to “Go Hard.”⠀
